Grangers honored with Founders Award in 2019
On the sunny shores of Bellingham Bay on September 21st, 2019, Deb and Pete Granger were recognized for their vision and leadership in creating our waterfront’s signature event: Bellingham SeaFeast. Mayor Kelli Linville presented this honor on behalf of the Bellingham SeaFeast Board of Directors and staff. Since founding and leading the festival for three years, Deb now serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors and Pete is our go-to volunteer for all the random jobs only Pete Granger could manage! We rely on and are grateful for their significant contribution as supporters, organizers, and volunteers for our festival weekend.
Both Deb and Pete have been involved in the seafood and fishing industry for over 40 years. During the summer, you can find them on their Lummi Island Reefnet Gear, participating in this unique fishery in our Salish Sea just a few miles from Bellingham. Previously, Deb managed a 12-state aquaculture research consortium funded by USDA at the University of Washington, and Pete recently retired from leading the marine advisory services for Washington Sea Grant at the University of Washington. Together, they have a long list of experiences, contributions and service to our Pacific Northwest waterfront communities. You can read more about both Grangers and their work on the Working Waterfront Coalition website, an organization they helped found a few years ago.
The Bellingham SeaFeast community would like to thank these two individuals for all they do for our waterfront and beyond.
Bellingham SeaFeast also honored our Legacy & Soul of Bellingham Bay Award winners on Saturday, September 21st at the festival. The Legacy of Bellingham Bay Award honors a company, group, or individual who has committed decades to the maritime and fishing sectors by personifying the historical significance of Whatcom County’s working waterfront. The SeaFeast Soul of Bellingham Bay Awards recognize families and individuals whose work represents high levels of commitment and service to the everlasting heritage of marine, fishing, and maritime endeavors.
