MEET YOUR FISHERMAN- HARLEY ETHELBAH

Harley Ethelbah and his family joined Bellingham Dockside Market in October 2021 selling their delicious wild Alaskan black cod and halibut. They sell under the name Jean C. Family Fisheries, named after their boat. Harley is on a mission to introduce black cod (aka Sablefish or Alaska Butter Fish) to a new audience and highlight the versatility of this rich, oil-rich fish. Ask him how he prepares it at home! He’s always happy to share a recipe and tell you all that you want to know about the many wild sustainable fisheries he has been involved with for over 40 years stretching from northern Alaska to southern California and probably every port in between!

Harley started fishing in Petersburg, Alaska when he was 11 years old, and from there became crew, then permit owner, and boat owner. Harley and his wife, Jill, have two children who tender salmon during the summers with Dad. Meeting customers like you at Dockside Market helps them see how their Dad’s labor and time away from home blesses the customer directly by providing healthy and sustainable food. Harley fishes for black cod, halibut and Dungeness crab in Alaska, Washington and Oregon.
