Meet Your Fisherman - Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson is a proud Bristol Bay fisherman operating the F/V Kelley J. How'd MJ become a fisherman?
"In 1979 I ran out of money on a climbing trip to Wyoming and met a guy that hooked me up with a job in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. Since that day, I became a commercial fisherman and now am a vessel owner/operator in Washington and Alaskan waters."
You may also recognize MJ from his involvement with Bellingham SeaFeast as emcee of several events throughout the weekend as he hosts the Main Stage, grills up salmon, prepares swimmers for the survival suit race, and hangs out with Crabby!
Why does MJ love selling his salmon? "I started my own efforts direct-marketing my fish in 2005. My direct-marketing has a strong educational component as I sit on the board of the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association (BBRSDA Bristol Bay Sockeye Salmon) as Vice-President and feel a very strong responsibility to educate consumers on the pristine habitat and world class sustainability of our fishery."
